Ever wonder why you rarely see “before and after” pics from my members? While I do encourage photos to track progress as I think they tell more about the journey than what a scale or tape measure reads (and it’s super hard to take accurate measurements of yourself) I usually don’t post them on my website or social media.
Of course if someone is super proud of her progress and wants to shout from the roof tops, I am THRILLED to share with other members but for the majority, I don’t post photos of my member’s progress and here’s why:
1. It’s really not any of your business what they look like in their underwear.
2. Everyone is at a different season of life. I teach healthy habits and essential nutrition information, not a crash diet. Some will be able to implement more habits at once than others. You can’t compare someone’s beginning chapters another person’s middle or end.
3. Photos don’t show if someone had no idea what a macro is before they started, has a history of crash dieting that they are finally learning to break, or works 60 hours a week and now knows how to prioritize.
4. The methods I teach may take years to implement, practice, and master. Some may see fast and furious results while others will be slow and steady, but both are something to be proud of! However, the person on the slow and steady pace can easily get discouraged and turn to a “quick fix” if they don’t see themselves progressing as quickly as someone else taking the course.
5. I believe there is too much emphasis on before and afters in the health industry and you have no idea what that person did to get the “after”. Sure, they might have a six-pack but she has to cook a separate dinner for her family each night or she doesn’t enjoy the food she’s eating…is that something to be proud of?
It’s easy to get sucked into a before and after comparison game. It’s easy to see “oh she lost weight, maybe I should go do that because it’s faster” but no one posts “After I quit buying the products” or “after I got tired of eating bird food” photos.
I don’t post before and afters because the Finally Fit Academy is for women that want to make permanent changes to their health and to do a lot of work mentally before they see results physically. It’s a course that only works for ladies that are willing to work! The Academy isn’t for someone looking for a 6 week slim down. The Academy is for women that are ready to study, and work to find what works for them. I provide all of the tools you need to become successful but it’s up to you to put them to work!
As you consider your options for health programs, remember that there’s a story behind the pictures and it may not always be something that you can see.
