A common question when it comes to weight loss or maintenance is how often should I eat?You hear so many different answers because it is different for everyone! Your work schedule and social life can influence this but it also comes down to personal preference. The key is to keep the calories constant so you are not in surplus (gaining weight).
For years I heard that I should be eating 5-6 times a day. “That’s the only way to keep your metabolism revved up.” Those tiny meals were a pain in the butt to prep, plus the tupperware was out of control each night! I never felt satisfied, I was always staring at the clock until it was time for my next feeding. I have no doubt that this was a contributing factor to my restrict and binge cycle that I was stuck in!
Intermittent fasting has helped me a great deal because I am not eating out of boredom and when I do eat, I can eat until I am satisfied. Most days I would say that I usually eat two large meals (5-600 calories each) and 1-2 smaller snacks. This helps me get in my servings of veggies but also allows to have my sweet treat after dinner.
If you’re new to calorie counting in general, it can take some time to figure out where your sweet spot is. You may find two meals is too short of an eating window or you may be like me and find six to be overwhelming. If you aren’t sure where to start, the Finally Fit Academy is a great place to begin. You’ll learn everything from how to determine your personal calorie calculation to different macro break downs to experiment with.
I’ve shared what works for me but I’m curious what works for YOU?!
