I’m rather new to following Jesus. Bible, Val Marie, Happy Planner

We grew up “believing” in God, even went to Presbyterian pre-school but we never talked about God or prayed at home.  In my twenties I started attending a few churches on my own because I wanted to get to know Christ on a deeper level but wasn’t sure how and really didn’t know who to talk to about it.

After Joe and I were married, my sister-in-law invited me to a bible study at her house.  I really wanted to join but I was afraid of looking stupid.  What if they went around the room and wanted me to say something “Jesus-y” but I had no idea what that was?  I didn’t even own a bible.  I asked my husband if I needed one and he said…”Yeah, probably.” ? THEN I was frantic because 1. the study started the following day and 2. What if I had to READ from the bible?! Looking back this is super funny but I’m sharing to show that we all start somewhere.  This was less than five years ago so not all that long ago.  My husband called his mom because they hand out bibles to the homeless through their ministry all the time.  My mother-in-law said they would drop one by.  I was anticipating a simple, basic bible but they went out that same night and bought me a women’s bible with a leather cover and my name embossed on it.  It was the best gift ever!

I’ve only scratched the surface at starting to learn about the Christian faith and all of the hundreds of stories in the bible.  (Maybe I should know how many books are in the bible…but I don’t ?) A few friends here and there have mentioned wanting/needing to spend more time in the word.  With my minimal knowledge I really don’t feel equipped to lead a bible study but I do feel led to.  I have no idea how this will turn out but I pray that my first group of ladies not only finds purpose in their life along with a closer relationship with God but has some grace and patience with me.  HA!  This will be a laid back group and we will meet virtually as we have ladies from all over the country and schedules are crazy in the summer!

The first study will be “Restless” by Jennie Allen, here’s a blurb about it!

In “Restless,” an 8-session, video-based small group Bible study, Bible study teacher and author Jennie Allen helps you discover a practical plan to identify the threads of your life and how to weave them together for God’s glory and purposes.
“Restless” explores this important question: “Do I matter?” And Jennie asks, “We live with lots of things, lots of people…but do we live for something?”

Using the story of Joseph, Jennie explains how his suffering, gifts, story, and relationships fit into the greater story of God-and how your story can do the same. She also introduces Threads – a tool to help you see your own personal story and to uncover and understand the raw materials God has given you to use for his glory and purpose.

Filled with practical tools and biblical teaching, “Restless” will equip you to: Make sense of the seemingly random relationships and activities of lifeRedeem life’s hurts and scarsPlace your story in context with God’s greater story

The study will begin on Wednesday May 30th but it’s open to anyone!
