Taco Burgers

This is family size, adjust for how many people you need to feed and how many nights. 2 pounds of meat would make approximately six, 5 ounce burgers or just over 1/4 pound.

Ingredients
  • 2 Pounds Lean Ground Meat (Beef, Turkey, or Bison per burger)
  • 1 packet Low Sodium Taco Seasoning (add more for more flavor)
  • 1/2 Onion (diced - optional)
  • 6 Slices Cheese
  • Taco Toppings (Guacamole, Salsa or Pico, Tomato, Onion, Lettuce)
  • 1 pkg Whole Wheat Buns
Instructions
  • Mix burger with diced onion and seasoning choice.
  • Form into patties.
  • Grill, pan fry, or broil your burgers in the oven to desired level of doneness.
Notes
Low Carb - Serve in a lettuce wrap or alone.  
Moderate Carb – serve with whole wheat/gluten free bun or sandwich thin.
Pre-made burger patties are always an option and you can sprinkle seasoning on top. If buying frozen, look for a brand with a short ingredient list. Jennie-O is a good choice for Turkey Burgers to keep on hand when in a pinch. Be certain to log the correct ratio of fat to protein.
Serve with chips and salsa.
