Does your family have evening activities throughout the week that make home cooked meals difficult? Meatball Subs are a simple meal that you can throw together in just a few minutes and your family will love it too!
Ingredients for Meatball Subs
- Frozen Meatballs
- Your favorite spaghetti sauce, keep an eye on sugar content!
- Parmesan Cheese
- Sub or Hoagie Buns
- Optional Veggies you can sauté into the sauce. Onion, Garlic, Zucchini, Shredded Carrots, Mushrooms are a few ideas.
Methods for cooking
A good thing about this meal idea is you can use a variety of cooking methods to prepare it.
Microwave
Yup. You can use your microwave! The meatballs will take longer to cook so you want to make sure to add the sauce toward the end as it will not take much time to heat. This is a good method if you are cooking for yourself or only a few servings.
Stovetop
The best method if you’d like to sneak some extra veggies in.
Crockpot
Fix it and forget it! Great if you have to divide and conquer to get everyone where they need to be on time and your family may need to eat at different times throughout the evening.

side ideas with meatball sub
Always serve a vegetable on the side. The meatballs will have some carbs but the bread is a carb as I’m sure you know! Adding a veggie will add nutrition and fiber to your meal.
vegetables
- Steamer Broccoli or your other favorite vegetable
- Slice up some zucchini and sauté with a bit of olive oil and garlic.
other ideas
I usually will eat only a vegetable on the side to keep my macros balanced but my husband and my teen both can put some food away!
- Tater Tots or Fries
- Pre-made Pasta Salad
I always have fruit as an option for the kids too.
