Summer Layer Salad is a traditional dish that has been popular for years and for good reason! It gives you at least a serving of vegetables but we pair it with fat so those vegetables taste amazing and keep you coming back for more!
For example, my husband does not like tomatoes so I’ll skip a section of the bowl. A glass bowl helps so I don’t lose track of what’s where!
ingredients for layer salad
Pick and choose your favorite vegetables. You don’t have to use everything in this list!
- Lettuce – whatever you prefer, chop it up into bite size pieces
- Red Onion – I like to thinly slice long pieces so it can easily be pulled out if someone doesn’t like onion
- Frozen Peas
- Tomato
- Mushrooms
- REAL Mayonaise
- Sour Cream
- Shredded Cheese
- Bacon
Ingredients
- 4 Cups Lettuce or Spinach (torn or cut into bite size pieces)
- ½ Small Red Onion (Sliced)
- 1½ Cups Frozen Peas (Thawed)
- 1 Large Tomato (Diced)
- ½ cup Real Mayo
- 1/2 cup Sour Cream
- 1½ cup Shredded Cheese
- 12 slices Bacon (cooked and crumbled)
Instructions
- Place greens in large glass bowl
- Top greens with 1/2 cup of cheese, then onion, tomatoes, and peas
- Mix together Mayo and Sour Cream. Spread over the top of the salad sealing all edges.
- Top with bacon and cheese.
- Refrigerate 2 to 12 hours to blend flavors. Toss before serving, if desired.

tips
- Be certain the sour cream and mayo mixture is spread over all of the vegetables and to the edges of the bowl, this will help seal in the flavor!
- It’s best to make this dish a few hours ahead of time.
- Hold on to the top layer of cheese and bacon until right before you serve so it doesn’t get soggy. If I’m serving to a group that I know has different tastes, I may section off my bowl based on what they like.
- You can serve the leftovers a day or two later but I recommend holding off on the bacon and cheese topping if at all possible.
